The Catalina flying boat, was used extensively throughout the second world war as a long range reconnisence aircraft. And was responsible for locating the giant German battleship Bismark - to name one of the missions.
This particular aircraft drew attention, by having an unscheduled landing and short stay in Loch Ness.
