The Supermarine Spitfire, is the most famous WW2 fighter, powered by a glorious sounding Merlin engine. 
It was known for its stunning design, speed and was used by devastating effect by the young couragious pilots.
The sound emmited by the merlin is probably the most recognisable sound of WW2.
